Chasing the Aurora – Discovering the Northern Lights Escorted Tour
Allow us to fly you from anywhere in the world right to the heart of our Tromso Chasing the Aurora Tour.
One of our most popular annual tours, and its popularity never dwindles. Our Professional tour guides will guide you in the search for nature’s most fantastic natural light show.
THE ADVENTURE BEGINS OCTOBER 25 2019
A convenient overnight flight from your International Airport will whisk you across the globe to Oslo.
After a short stop for immigration formalities you’ll continue northward on a regional flight across the mountains and fjords to cross the Arctic Circle and then onwards for 200 miles to touch down in Tromso.
You’ll be met at the airport and transferred by luxury coach to the Radisson Blu hotel just 15 minutes away.
The Radisson group features some of the best hotels in Scandinavia. They are clean and comfortable and provide a very hearty breakfast included in the cost. The hotel is one of the best in Tromso and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, bars, and local museums.
It’s about 20 minutes away from a good dark sky. You might be lucky enough to catch an aurora from the town centre as happened on our last trip.
The trip includes regular courses in sky photography for everyone no matter what their photographic background or experience.
There is no hiking required on this trip. On four nights a luxury coach with a restroom and coffee stand will be provided to take the group to favored locations, depending upon the local weather, the space weather and aurora conditions.
At night outside the City there are no shops or other facilities so the coach stays with us and is a real lifeboat. Providing a warming zone, dry storage for cameras and a shelter from the wind.
Included is a day time tour around the Troms region by coach to view some of the rugged sights along the coast. On another occasion we will head to the Norwegian mainland, cross a large fjord by ferry and enjoy views of the Lyngen Alps and the surrounding areas.
On other occasions, you’ll be free to have other adventures with some of the many other tour operators operating around Tromso who offer all kinds of experiences both day and night. These include whale watching and other Arctic adventures.
After six nights above the Arctic Circle you will head back to Newark on November 1.
Places are limited. Book now and take this chance of a lifetime to try to experience one of nature’s grandest spectacles.
THE AURORA BOREALIS (NORTHERN LIGHTS)
The northern lights are caused by interactions between the Earth’s magnetosphere, the Earth’s atmosphere and particles streaming off the sun known as the solar wind.
Ejections of these particles from the sun into space and out toward the Earth occur as a result of eruptions on the sun know as coronal mass ejections. However, a second phenomenon can also produce auroras. These are known as coronal holes which are regions in the sun’s atmosphere where the sun’s magnetic field is weak and thus the solar wind can also escape into space.
Recently, sunspots and coronal mass ejections have been on the decrease but many large coronal holes have formed producing spectacular auroras. Rarely seen at the lower latitudes on Earth, where most of humanity lives, they are more common near the high Arctic or Antarctic. The high Arctic is much easier to visit than the Antarctic. The lights are most often seen during the winter simply because the sky is darker than during the long days of the Arctic summer.
Tromso is one of the few inhabited places with a good infrastructure where if the sky is clear the chances of seeing an Aurora are extremely high. Due to its extreme northerly position, the huge circular band of energy, that carries the lights, passes over Tromso every night. This is not the case in some places in Canada or Alaska, which are not so easy or inexpensive to reach Being near the coast the temperature in Tromso is somewhat milder with average November daytime temperatures around a high of 36Fand nighttime low of 27 F.

SOME QUOTES FROM OUR 2018 AND 2017 TRIP
I find that I am constantly thinking of Norway . . . . . . . the city of Tromso, our day trips viewing magnificent/scenic mountains, the fjords, the quaint homes and villages, and the stellar Auroras
I must say that this was one of the best and enlightening traveling experiences I have ever had. …..LYN
We chased and captured the Aurora with two enthusiasts backed with abundant knowledge and experience. Truly experts in their field. This was an adventure of a lifetime filled with five beautiful nights of colors and movement of the Aurora, and beyond anyone’s imagination. LUCINDA
Your expertise and endless enthusiasm contributed to our sighting of Aurora in five nights against all odds. I just started learning how to take photos at night.-during the trip. Thank you for showing me how to make time-lapse video using my Nikon D810. I am glad to report that I have made three 30-second videos (30fps) as results of your teaching. I would encourage all my friends who are anxious to see Northern Lights to join your trip next year. Thank you and hope to see you guys again. LOU
I have vague memories of some of my photo trips but this will not be one of them. RICHARD
The time and energy you spend in selecting the locations for our aurora-chasing in addition to all of the onsite photographic support you provide guarantees that we all leave with great memories and pictures. Even though this was my third trip, I can still say it was unforgettable NANCY
